The Pusat Perfilman Haji Usmar Ismail (PPHUI) Building was dedicated by the Governor of Jakarta Governor in 1997 with land area of 3,800sqm; with six storeys it now has a total of 6,388sqm. It was established with the objective of bringing Indonesian film-makers together and providing them with a centre from which to work. There are now nine cinematic organizations who have taken office space there. (The cinema industry aside, this building also provides other office space that includes access to the theatre).

The first through third floors, in fact, provide comfortable office space, suitable for any business use. The fourth and fifth floors are devoted to the offices of Indonesian cinema organizations with the cinema library boasting some 5,000 cinema books and 6,500 scenarios and scripts.

The basement houses Indonesia’s largest film warehouse which preserves and manages 250 film titles, dating from as far back as 1935, through to 2005. In addition, there is the cinematography school of SDM Citra which organizes cinema education to produce skilled manpower for the country’s movie-making industry.

The building and its concert hall/cinema are strategically located in the Golden Triangle of Jakarta – a centre of culture right in the middle of the CBD.
